Paul Ysart (1904-1991) was a renowned Spanish-born glassmaker who settled in Scotland in 1915. Starting his apprenticeship at Moncrieff Glassworks in 1921, he became known for his exquisite paperweights. His work was featured in Evangeline Bergstrom’s 1940 book Old Glass Paperweights, where two of his pieces were mistakenly thought to be French due to their quality. Later, Ysart worked at Caithness Glass before founding his own companies, Harland and Highland Paperweights, continuing to create sought-after paperweights until the 1970s.
