Paul Ysart Patterned Millefiori Blue Ground with side Canes

This striking Paul Ysart paperweight showcases an early innovation of his: laying cut lengths of cane on their sides, making their spiral construction an integral part of the design. White threads surround sparkling aventurine glass rods, alternating with green and white floral millefiori around the perimeter. At the center, colorful complex canes form a carefully ordered, symmetrical arrangement around a central star cane. A beautiful translucent blue ground brings depth and contrast to the composition.
